Day 56 - When Foxie met the brokers and the paint party continued! (or when the dining room was the cleanest it's been for 40 years).
Day 56 - When Foxie met the brokers and the paint party continued! (or when the dining room was the cleanest it's been for 40 years).
Our brokers came to site today to discuss all things insurance, and very kindly bought us some of our wishlist to help out the project. They're working with us to try to make sure we can deliver all the things on site that we want to and we're excited to move forwards with the next phase of our plans.
In practical terms, our volunteers worked hard on their various tasks. For the majority it was Lodge, Lodge, Lodge all the way. Volunteer Lyndsey took on the next phase of the kitchen for us, cutting out old sealant, painting and applying final filler. Volunteer Chris got acquainted with one of the hoover regiment for us cleaning some of the rooms on the ground floor ready for the 24-Hour Sing on Friday and then spent the afternoon carefully applying a further layer of varnish to the cupboard doors which are laid out in the Main Hall (final coat tomorrow). Volunteer Gordon has fixed some more of The Lodge snagging list, using inspection hatches purchased by Foxie's Fairy Godparents from our wishlist and also completing repairs to a window in The Lodge that hasn't been in a state to be opened for some time - the view over North Meadows and beyond is now once again available to those who brush their teeth in the upstairs shower room.
Voluteers Janet and Jane sugar soaped and painted the prep room for us and finished off the hallway painting ready for our shiny new signage to arrive...watch this space. Our friends at Sign-It are working hard for us to get it to us hopefully in time for our first visitors to The Lodge on Friday so fingers crossed it's wish us and in place by then. Everything is looking so much fresher and Volunteer Jacqueline attacked the patio windows with gusto for us after a bit of sanding and they're becoming more sparkly with every wash. We bid a (temporary) farewell to our Volunteer double-act from Devon today who have been with us for nearly a week and done stirling work - we're very grateful for all their efforts during their stay!
We've had a bit of a special project going on in Foxlease House this week with Volunteers Alison and Sandra who have, so far, spent two days and countless buckets of water, cleaning the dining room for us (on hands and knees no less!) and it is sparkling and smells lovely and clean! They've cleaned every chair and table, the high chairs are a shade of white we're not sure they've ever been previously, the floor is the colour it should be and the great Foxlease House spider/spider web relocation has continued (as you can see from the photos). Tomorrow they're continuing with the food service end of the room but we're excited by the potential to start looking at ways to use the dining room space in the coming months now that we know it's back to a foodsafe and (mostly) spider-free state.
Great progess and we're tackling more of The Lodge tomorrow ready for Friday, Love Foxie x
