Day 5 - An alarmingly windy weekend (or when Foxie met Bert).

Day 5 - An alarmingly windy weekend (or when Foxie met Bert).

For those of you who live far away from Hampshire, in hopefully drier places, Hampshire has been rather wet this weekend thanks to Storm Bert and rife with weather warnings for high winds and heavy rain all over the place.  It's safe to say that Foxie and Team are not a big fan of Bert.

Much like the heating system (who'd believe we're only on day 5 of ownership; it already feels like forever that we've been waiting to learn how to adjust that!) our alarm system is also a new experience for us.  It has an extensive zoning plan across Foxlease House and the other buildings with tonnes of sensors which, so far, are proving very sensitive...particularly to gusts of wind.  The good news is that that means that Foxie's home is safe! The bad news...it means that between our three keyholding Trustees (and one wonderful locally-based committee member) they have all been conducting a bit of a juggling act for the last few days with responding to alerts on site in different buildings due to gusts at varying times of day and night - we're now excellent friends (on Foxie's behalf) with our alarm company, whose ability to sound chirpy and be helpful at 2am is nothing short of exceptional.

We've also had fun learning to agree walkie-talkie protocols.  It seems obvious that if you've got a whole host of people using the same channel to communicate on a large site you'd have some kind of code to make it clear who you're trying to talk to but we didn't think of that until our toilet-fixing volunteer was interrupted at the crucial moment of the job with his head under the cistern for the second time when he thought a radio call was for him. and it wasn't.

We're looking forward to our first full week next week, with our first non-Trustee/Committee volunteer arriving onsite tomorrow to assist us, and a number more planned for later this week, with lots more to call.

We're looking forward to what this week's impromptu scavenger hunts for things might bring!  It wasn't safe on site for little foxies today so we don't have an on site photo but the crew stayed warm and dry (see photo) and at least one of them will be back on site tomorrow to join our volunteers.

More soon, Love Foxie x
